LAUREN BEIRNE

 Artistic Director and founder of LBDW, Lauren Beirne is a NJ native/Brooklyn-based dancer, choreographer and educator, with an extensive background in movement, theatre, and visual arts. She holds a BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, and an MFA from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, both in Dance Performance with a concentration in choreography and pedagogy, mentored by Randy James, Sean Curran and Joy Kellman. She has performed with Randy James Dance Works, Kimani Fowlin, Kate Weare, Deborah Jowitt, Motus Dance Theatre, the White Rabbit Cabaret, Nikki Manx Dance Project, The Outlet Dance Project, NOEXIT Performance Group, Beef  & Boards (AEA), Suzanne Beahrs at the DanceNOW (Raw) & DUMBO Dance Festivals, and most recently at Dixon Place as a company member of Desert Sin Dance Theatre.

 

 Lauren's own work has been presented by NYU, Dance NJ, ACDF, Rutgers University, The Lower Eastside Festival of the Arts, MDT "Pairings" , the Indiana Dance Festival, Indy Fringe, the HATCH Series with Jennifer Muller/The Works, the Actors Fund Art Center with Six Degrees Dance Co., NJ's YOUR MOVE Dance Festival (2015/2016), Bansky Film Productions, and The Garage at FDU in Residency with NMDP. 

 

 In 2016, LBDW was commissioned by  RAW Artists: FUTURES, Dixon Place: Under Exposed (Doug Post), and Marked Dance Project at John Jay College. They were honored to be be one of the select companies showing on the Top Floor of the Westfest Dance Festival at The Martha Graham Theatre, including a special invitation by Manuel Vignoulle to hold an open rehearsal for All Over Westbeth. In 2018 LBDW presented its second evening length work at TAKE ROOT in LIC. In 2019 LBDW was invited to perform with Inclined Dance Project and Under Exposed: MEN in DANCE. That year she also partnered with Integrated Visions to create an original Extended Reality (xR) digital work , Analog Swirls in Digital Whirls, with technology provided by Choreografx Studios , featuring Stype, Blacktrax and NotchVFX presented at WorldStage in NYC and San Fransisco.

 

 LBDW has also performed at NYU under the mentorship of Gus Solomons Jr., and was hosted by The Rabbit Hole in Brooklyn, NY featuring Nikki Manx Dance Project. LBDW opened the premier evening performance of WHITE WAVE's  DUMBO Dance Festival in 2016. In 2017 & 2019 they presented at DUMBO Solo/Duo Festival at Dixon Place, and as an invited guest at RAW Artists: Fixate at the Brooklyn Bazaar, and Dumbo Dance Festival 2017 at Kelsey Kirkland Arts Center. In 2018, LBDW presented a self produced split-bill with Six Degrees Dance Company at the Actors Fund Art Center in Brooklyn and premiers a new evening length work for Take Root at the Green Space in NYC. Most recently, Lauren co-choreographed The Nutcracker at The Kelsey Theatre in West Windsor, NJ as the Ballet Mistress at the Dance Connection, NJ and is currently choreographing "The Wizard of Oz at East Brunswick High School.    

 

 An accomplished visual designer, Lauren has styled and built costumes for numerous dance companies, including Carol Mendes and Artists, Suzanne Beahrs Dance, Erin Bomboy and Dancers, Callie Hatchett Dance, Paul Taylor Dance Company's  "Esplanade' reset by Richard Chen-See for Young Dancemakers Company under Alice Teirstein, Motus Dance Theatre, James Martin, Deborah Jowitt, Giada Ferrone Dance, and the Second Avenue Dance Company at NYU. 

  

 An educator for over two decades, Lauren had taught at Brooklyn College, Creative Arts Studios, Spoke the HUB, Scared Heart University, NYU Tisch and The Gallatin School, Sunnyside Ballet, Ballet Forte and various other prominent NY and NJ dance programs. She served as Ballet Director for Kenyetta Dance Company, Professional Faculty for Motus Dance Theatre,  and is currently on Faculty at Raritan Valley Community College, HeART in Motion Studio and The Dance Connection. Her former students now join the ranks of world class schools like Alvin Ailey and Trinity Laban in London, and companies including Philadanco, Giordano Dance, Cincinnati Ballet, The Lion King U.S. touring company and of course, LBDW (holy full circle moment!) She continues to teach dance and yoga  (certified Mind Body Dancer Yoga™) throughout the tri-state area. 

 

 In 2021, Lauren performed as a soloist in Loretta Fois's award winning dance film, Terpsichore's Sacrilegium, that won "Best Movie of the Year" at the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival in Athens, Greece. She also was privileged to dance in RVCC's tribute to Rosas dans Rosas by Anne Teresa De Keesmaeker.

  Lauren launched LBDW in 2015.
